Self-isolation for new arrivals

The Estonian University of Life Sciences is currently only accepting it's own students into the dormitory (we still accept family members (spouses, partners, parents, relatives, children) that are travelling with the arriving students). Rules on COVID-testing and accommodation might differ throughout the country, but here are the self-isolation and testing rules specifically meant for our students.

STUDENTS ARRIVING FROM LATVIA, LITHUANIA AND FINLAND:

  • Arrivals from these countries do not currently need to self-isolate before moving into the dormitory room, but we ask that you monitor your health, travel only when you don't have any symptoms of illness and do a COVID-19 test up to 48h before you leave your home country (Latvia, Lithuania, Finland) or when you arrive to Estonia. We ask you to let the accommodation manager know your test result via e-mail (kylliki.aavast@emu.ee).

ALL OTHER ARRIVING STUDENTS:

  • All students need to do a COVID-19 test when they arrive to Estonia and self-isolate for the required period before they can move into their assigned dormitory room. Latest information on self-isolation rules can be found here: https://vm.ee/en/information-countries-and-self-isolation-requirements-passengers
  • Currently the period of self-isolation is 10 days.
  • After you complete your self-isolation, you will need to take a COVID-test and wait for the result to be sent to you.
  • Once you receive back a negative test result, let the accommodation manager know via e-mail (kylliki.aavast@emu.ee) and you can then move into your assigned dormitory room.

OPTIONS FOR SELF-ISOLATION:

Self-isolating in your assigned dormitory room is not allowed. The apartments in our dormitory have a shared kitchen and bathroom with other flatmates so it's not possible to isolate yourself completely in those small shared spaces. We thank you for understanding that this is necessary for preventing the spread of COVID virus in the dormitory!

(Only exception is for those few tenants that have a completely private apartment not shared with any strangers, with special permission by the accommodation manager or -specialist).

  • We have sectioned off a corridor on the Torn dormitory first floor as self-isolation rooms. These rooms are available only for arriving EMÜ students or in case a tenant needs to be quarantined. They are just like regular dormitory rooms, but the corridor has a separate entrance so the person self-isolating will not come into contact with any other residents of the building during their stay. Each self-isolation apartment has two bedrooms, a shared kitchen and bathroom. We will place each student in a separate room, but in case two students are travelling together and there are not enough rooms, they might have to share a room (self-isolation room placement is separate from your dormitory contract and is not affected by your contract type or price).

Once your self-isolation is over and you share your test result with the manager, you must promptly (on the same day) sign your contract, get the keys and start moving your things to your dormitory room so the self-isolation room can be cleaned and prepared for the next arrival. Thank you for your understanding!

Students who are self-isolating in the dormitory will be picked up by the university driver from the airport (for an added fee) and brought straight to the dormitory. The student will already have a regular dormitory contract when arriving, but there will be an extra fee added for the self-isolation period). Since your arrival and self-isolation details need to be confirmed with the International Department, we will be aware of your arrival and will send you the instructions to your e-mail on how to do the check-in.

  • Since we have a limited amount of self-isolation rooms in the dormitoy and many students arriving at once, the EMÜ International Department recommends that students who will arrive in Tallinn and are able to do so, book a separate place for your self-isolation period (e.g hotel or airbnb). After the self-isolation period has ended, you need to do a COVID-test. Let the manager know your test result and if it was negative, you can then start your journey to Tartu by bus, train or car. If you are arriving from Riga airport by bus or car, then you can also find private accommodation in Tartu for your self-isolation.

STUDENTS THAT WANT TO TRAVEL HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS (OR STUDIES) AND RETURN TO ESTONIA

  • The university does not encourage travelling between countries right now unless absolutely necessary!
  • Any students travelling should inform the International Department and/or the dormitory manager so we can update you on any important information you might need to know.
  • All students who are travelling to another country and plan to return (not depending on how long you stay away) to their dormitory room, will need to follow the same rules as new arriving students. This means you will need to self-isolate again for the required period (either in the dormitory first floor or elsewhere), do a COVID test and tell the accommodation manager the test result before returning to your dormitory room.
  • The dormitory can cancel the contract of any tenants who break this rule.
